Panjab University Declares Sudden Holiday After Security Concerns
Panjab University announced an unexpected holiday today after the police highlighted a potential security risk linked to growing student protests on campus. The decision came late in the evening and reversed an earlier statement that had declared November twenty six a regular working day. The administration opted to shut all teaching and non teaching departments along with campus offices to prevent any situation that might escalate due to the rising tension.
The unrest stems from student groups demanding the long pending announcement of the Senate election schedule. The agitation gained momentum throughout the week with student bodies preparing for a total shutdown. According to officials the police raised concerns about the possibility of large gatherings blocking university gates which could disrupt safety and movement within the campus. Late on Tuesday a brief blockade at Gate Number Two further intensified the situation and prompted the administration to act quickly.
The declaration of a holiday also means that all examinations scheduled for today have been postponed. Fresh dates will be announced soon and students have been advised to wait for official communication from the university. While the holiday helps diffuse immediate tension the core issue remains unsettled and student groups have indicated that their campaign will continue until a clear election schedule is released.
