Microsoft is testing a new feature in Windows 11 through PowerToys that could change the way users interact with their desktops. The feature is called the Command Palette Dock and it provides a customizable menu bar that sits on the edge of the screen. This dock allows users to quickly access apps, tools, and system functions without relying solely on the traditional taskbar.
The dock is inspired by menu bars found in other operating systems and can be placed at the top, bottom, or sides of the display. Users can pin shortcuts, widgets, and quick actions to different areas of the dock. The feature builds on the existing PowerToys Command Palette, which is a keyboard driven launcher that opens with Win plus Alt plus Space by default.
While still in the early experimental stage, the Command Palette Dock shows Microsoft’s commitment to improving productivity tools for power users. The dock provides a new way to manage tasks and access information quickly and efficiently. Feedback from users during this prototype phase will help shape the future of this feature.
