Chandigarh Startup Policy: UT’s young innovators to get subsidy access within a week

The recent announcement that the working guidelines for the startup policy in Chandigarh are about to be notified is a welcome sign for the city’s aspiring entrepreneurs. The policy, which was formally brought into effect on April 29 2025, has been in limbo because though announced months ago the operational framework was still pending.

According to officials, the crucial document outlining how subsidies and support will be accessed has now been finalised and is awaiting final approval. Once notified it will allow eligible startups to apply for benefits under the policy.

To qualify a startup will have to be recognised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade and have its registered office in Chandigarh. Once the application is submitted it will be reviewed by a committee and, if there are no issues, approval is expected within fifteen days.

For entrepreneurs in the city this is a moment to act. Having the eligibility criteria ready and being registered and recognised puts you in a strong position as soon as the portal opens. With the notification imminent, there is a real chance to move from planning into execution.

The policy itself, though delayed, represents a fresh push by the administration to build a stronger ecosystem for innovation and new business ventures. With a set period of five years from notification the clock is now ticking for startups to take advantage of this window.
