The upcoming Apple iPhone 18 lineup has already started generating strong buzz even though its launch is still many months away. Leaks and early reports suggest that Apple is planning one of its most ambitious refreshes in recent years, with notable changes expected in launch strategy, design, performance and camera technology. For Indian consumers, the iPhone 18 series could mark an important shift in how Apple positions its premium and standard models.
According to current leaks, Apple may adopt a staggered launch approach for the iPhone 18 lineup. The high end iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models are expected to debut globally around September 2026, in line with Apple’s traditional fall launch cycle. However, the standard iPhone 18 could arrive later, possibly in early 2027. If this strategy plays out, India is also expected to receive the Pro models first, followed by the base variant at a later date, making this a significant change from Apple’s usual single event release pattern.
In terms of pricing, early estimates indicate that the iPhone 18 could start at around Rs 84,900 in India, while the iPhone 18 Pro may be priced close to Rs 1,34,900. The top end iPhone 18 Pro Max could go up to approximately Rs 1,49,900 for the base storage variant. These prices remain speculative, but some reports suggest that rising component costs could push Pro model prices slightly higher compared to previous generations, while Apple may try to keep the standard model more accessible.
Design changes are expected to be one of the biggest highlights of the iPhone 18 series. Leaks hint that Apple may finally introduce under display Face ID technology on Pro models, which could reduce or even eliminate the Dynamic Island as we know it today. This would result in a cleaner, more immersive display experience. The Pro models are also expected to feature large OLED displays with ProMotion technology offering a 120Hz refresh rate, while the Pro Max could stretch close to a 6.9 inch screen size.
Camera upgrades are also likely to play a major role in the iPhone 18 lineup. Reports suggest that Apple is testing variable aperture technology for the main camera on Pro models, which could significantly improve low light photography and depth control. The triple camera setup is expected to remain, but with better sensors and improved computational photography. Video recording enhancements are also expected to align with Apple’s growing focus on content creators.
Under the hood, the iPhone 18 series is expected to be powered by Apple’s next generation A20 chipset. Built on an advanced 2 nanometer process, the new chip is expected to deliver noticeable gains in performance and power efficiency. Pro models may get a more powerful A20 Pro variant, while the standard iPhone 18 could use a slightly toned down version of the same chip. Improvements in battery efficiency and sustained performance are also anticipated.
On the software side, the iPhone 18 lineup is expected to ship with a future version of iOS that further expands Apple Intelligence features. Enhanced on device AI capabilities, a smarter Siri experience and deeper integration of AI powered tools across apps are all expected to be part of the package, making the overall user experience more intuitive and personalised.
