Uttarakhand has achieved a significant milestone by securing Leader status in the Centre’s startup ecosystem ranking, marking a new chapter in the state’s journey towards innovation driven growth. The recognition has been awarded under the States’ Startup Ecosystem Ranking released by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry. This achievement reflects the steady progress Uttarakhand has made in building a supportive and sustainable environment for startups and entrepreneurs.
Over the past few years, Uttarakhand has focused on strengthening its startup framework through progressive policies, simplified compliance systems and targeted incentives for new ventures. From being placed in emerging and aspiring categories in earlier editions of the ranking, the state has now moved into the Leader bracket, highlighting consistent improvement and effective policy execution. The ranking evaluates states on multiple parameters including policy support, institutional backing, access to funding, incubation infrastructure and efforts to promote innovation at the grassroots level.
The recognition is also a validation of the state government’s emphasis on youth entrepreneurship and employment generation. By encouraging local innovation and supporting startups in sectors such as agriculture technology, tourism, healthcare, renewable energy and information technology, Uttarakhand has created new opportunities for its young population. Startup incubation centres, mentorship programs and easier access to government support have played a key role in nurturing early stage companies across the state.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has described the Leader status as a matter of pride for the state and a motivation to further strengthen the startup ecosystem. He has reiterated the government’s commitment to making Uttarakhand a preferred destination for startups and investors by promoting innovation friendly governance and industry collaboration.
