AFD and Uganda Development Bank Partner to Boost Uganda’s Economy with 40 Million Euro Financing

The Agence Française de Développement and Uganda Development Bank have signed a €40 million financing agreement to support economic growth in Uganda. The deal was finalized in Kampala and is aimed at providing long term capital to key sectors of the Ugandan economy.

The agreement includes an initial credit line of €40 million and €800,000 in technical assistance. This funding will help the Uganda Development Bank deliver financial solutions to priority areas while expanding access to finance for underserved groups including youth and women.

The financing aligns with Uganda’s National Development Plan IV and supports the bank’s strategic focus on structured lending, advisory services, and partnerships with local and international investors. The goal is to promote inclusive growth, create jobs, and strengthen infrastructure across the country.

Uganda Development Bank’s leadership emphasized that the partnership would enable the financing of transformative projects that address environmental and social challenges while encouraging economic participation for traditionally excluded populations.

France’s support reflects a broader commitment to assisting Uganda in sectors such as agriculture, agribusiness, climate resilient initiatives, and infrastructure development. The collaboration demonstrates confidence in Uganda’s development framework and aims to create lasting economic impact through strengthened investment and financial inclusion.
